When does week 1 of 2027 start?
1 January 2027 is a Friday. Under ISO 8601, the first calendar week is the week containing the first Thursday of the year — and the first Thursday of 2027 is 7 January. Week 1 of 2027 therefore only begins on Monday, 4 January 2027, and ends on Sunday, 10 January 2027.
New Year's Day and 2 and 3 January 2027 still belong to week 53 of 2026, which began on Monday, 28 December 2026. Anyone writing "week 1" in January does not mean the week containing New Year's Day but the week after. The guide Calendar weeks explained explains why.
When does the last week of 2027 end?
Week 52 of 2027 runs from Monday, 27 December 2027, to Sunday, 2 January 2028. New Year's Eve (Friday, 31 December) and 1 and 2 January 2028 therefore still count as week 52 of 2027. Week 1 of 2028 starts on Monday, 3 January 2028.

2027 is an unfavourable holiday year for employees
It is striking how many public holidays fall on a weekend in 2027: Labour Day on a Saturday, German Unity Day on a Sunday, Reformation Day on a Sunday and both Christmas holidays on Saturday and Sunday. With nationwide holidays only, that leaves 256 working days from Monday to Friday — noticeably more than in many other years. Tips for planning 2027
Do not copy weekly plans from 2026 without checking them: templates extended to 53 weeks for 2026 need to go back to 52 weeks for 2027. Plan January appointments with a date rather than just a week number, because week 1 of 2027 only starts on 4 January. And check whether partners abroad also count according to ISO 8601 — in countries where the week starts on Sunday, the week containing New Year's Day is often number 1.
