A new garnishment table has applied in Germany since 1 July 2026. The exempt basic amount rose from 1,555.00 € to 1,587.40 € a month. The increases for dependants, the upper limit and the allowance on a P-Konto are higher too. The new amounts apply until 30 June 2027.

The basis is the 2026 exemption notice of 19 March 2026, published in the Federal Law Gazette on 26 March 2026 (BGBl. 2026 I No. 80). Here are all values at a glance.

The new amounts compared

Separate amounts apply to weekly and daily pay. The basic amount rises from 357.87 € to 365.33 € per week and from 71.57 € to 73.06 € per day. The upper limit is now 1,119.90 € per week and 223.99 € per day.

Exemption limits by number of dependants

5 or more3,516.14 €809.23 €161.84 €3,518.74 €

Your income is fully protected up to these net amounts. Because the table works in 10 € steps, garnishment without dependants only starts at 1,590.00 € net. The complete table with every 10 € step from 1,590.00 € to 4,866.30 € is part of the wage garnishment calculator.

What does this mean in euros?

Depending on the number of dependants, the garnishable amount falls by about 7 to 23 € a month, and by more for incomes above the old upper limit. So you keep a little more:

Net pay, dependantsgarnishable until 30 Jun 2026garnishable from 1 Jul 2026You keep more
2,000 €, none311.50 €288.82 €22.68 €
2,500 €, none661.50 €638.82 €22.68 €
2,500 €, one179.89 €157.59 €22.30 €
3,000 €, two213.49 €192.94 €20.55 €
4,000 €, three362.31 €344.86 €17.45 €
5,000 €, none2,476.51 €2,424.52 €51.99 €

Without dependants the relief is almost always the same: 32.40 € more exempt, 70 % of which is 22.68 €. For high incomes above the old upper limit it is bigger, because the upper limit has risen too.

Why do the amounts rise?

The exemption limits are linked to the basic tax-free allowance. Under § 850c (4) ZPO they change every year on 1 July in the same proportion as the basic allowance under § 32a (1) sentence 2 No. 1 of the Income Tax Act. The Federal Ministry of Justice calculates the values and publishes them in the Federal Law Gazette. In 2026 the increase is about 2.1 %.

Do I have to do anything?

Usually not. A garnishment and transfer order refers to the official table. Your employer therefore has to use the new amounts on its own from the July 2026 payroll. Check your payslip anyway. If the deduction is wrong, talk to your employer.

On a P-Konto the basic allowance also rises to 1,590 € automatically. If you have given the bank a certificate for your dependants, it should apply the higher increases. Look at your account statement and ask if in doubt. More in P-Konto: how to get your protected amount raised.

What happens in 2027?

The next adjustment is due on 1 July 2027. The amounts for it have not been published yet. They will again follow the development of the basic tax-free allowance. As soon as the notice appears in the Federal Law Gazette, we will update the table and the calculator.

How the table values are calculated in detail is explained in the main article Wage garnishment in Germany 2026.
