The short answer
In 2027 Germany has 9 nationwide public holidays. Depending on the state, one to three state holidays are added. In total every state has 10 to 12 statutory holidays. Since many of them fall on a weekend, only 5 to 8 fall on a weekday from Monday to Friday. Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027.

Easter Sunday and Whit Sunday always fall on a Sunday. Brandenburg names them explicitly in its holiday law, which is why the state has 12 holidays on paper. It makes no difference for vacation planning.

The counts include the state-wide holidays, not regional ones such as the Augsburg Peace Festival. In Bavarian municipalities with a predominantly Catholic population, Assumption Day is added, although in 2027 it falls on a Sunday.
What makes 2027 special
- Many holidays on a weekend: Labour Day (Saturday), German Unity Day (Sunday), Reformation Day (Sunday) and both Christmas holidays (Saturday and Sunday). Compared with 2026, employees therefore have 1 to 2 more working days depending on the state.
- Early Easter: Easter falls on 28 March in 2027, so Ascension Day (6 May), Whitsun (16/17 May) and Corpus Christi (27 May) are early too. May is the best bridge day month of the year.
- Three Mondays: International Women's Day, World Children's Day and All Saints' Day fall on a Monday and give a long weekend without leave in their states.
Movable holidays: how they are calculated
All movable holidays depend on Easter Sunday, the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. Good Friday is 2 days before, Easter Monday 1 day after, Ascension Day 39 days, Whit Monday 50 days and Corpus Christi 60 days after Easter Sunday.
